Gerald Cummings

Jerry was born in the small town of Logan, Kansas. He was actually born in the town doctor's office, which was another home, next door to his family home. He completed his schooling in Logan, and then went on to a 2 year auto mechanics trade school in Goodland, KS. During his teen years, he always had an interest in American hot rod cars and trucks. He started changing engines, transmission, and every other vehicle component imaginable at a very young age. Jerry was regarded as a master mechanic. Through this passion, he gained many friendships and always enjoyed sharing his knowledge of mechanics with others. One of his proudest accomplishments includes rebuilding and restoring his father's old '65 Chevy farm truck. In his early 20's he started working in the oil fields of KS and OK. He was soon recognized as a very hard worker which afforded him many opportunities to grow within the industry. He first moved from KS to Rock Springs, WY where his son, Jason was born in 1982. He would later move and relocate to Bakersfield, CA, New Orleans, then Oklahoma City. This is where he met and fell in love with Lisa. When he was being transferred with his job from OKC to Houston, that's when he and Lisa married in 1996 in Miami, FL, to begin their 21 year marriage in Spring, TX. Jerry traveled all over the world with his career and saw and experienced many exciting and interesting places. Here in Houston, he ended up with National Oilwell Varco (NOV) where he retired in March, 2017 after 37 years of service. In this time, he gained the respect of so many in the oil and gas industry. He continued to work contract work with them after retirement, which included teaching and training countless young "up and comers". He enjoyed his routines which included Sat night street meets with his 65 Chevy truck along with many friends. On occasion he raced his truck at the drag races. He loved his wife and enjoyed many trips with her over the years, but he fell in love all over again when his granddaughter Hope was born in 2014. To her, he was affectionately known as Pappy. Jerry was preceded in death by: Son Jason Daniel Cummings (2002, age 20) Parents Dona (2007, age 78) and AG (2013, age 90) He is survived by his wife Lisa, step-son Justin Sims, granddaughter Hope Sims, sister Vicki and husband Steve Ward of Logan, KS, niece Andrea and husband Richard Willey of Londonderry, NH, Aunt Connie and Uncle Eddie, and cousins Marcus and Angela, all of the Houston area, and many other relatives and great friends.
