Mona Evelyn Y'Barbo

Mona Evelyn Y’Barbo passed away from her earthly life on May 26, 2023, following complications after being hospitalized for pneumonia. She was the fifth child born to Jose Mario and Verna Maude Vidal, on August 18, 1939 in Brownsville, Texas. Mona’s family moved from Brownsville to San Antonio, Texas, where her parents worked at Kelly Air Force Base during World War II. They moved back to Brownsville and later to Galena Park, in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Baldridge, in 1956 when they were seniors, and graduated later in 1958. They had four daughters and one son. She worked at Galena Park State Bank and Gulfgate Bank in Houston from 1958 to 1960. She began working again in 1968 for Regal Food Service in Houston. She married Clifford Y’Barbo in 1971 and moved to the Aldine area in Houston. They had one son. All her children graduated from Aldine High School. When Clifford retired from Cameron Ironworks in 1995, Mona also left Regal Food after working there 28 years, and they moved to Nacogdoches in January 1996. She worked in the Stephen F Austin State University Library from May 1996 until August 2014, retiring at the age of 75. She was a member of New Hope Congregational Methodist Church in Nacogdoches. In April 2021, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Luis, in Spring, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Clifford, her parents, two sisters, Pauline Vidal and Donna Maxwell, and her only brother, Joe Vidal, two nieces, two nephews, parents-in-law, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She is survived by family who love her dearly. Children: Debbie Whitehead and husband Ronnie, Teresa Weyer and husband Jim, Shari Garcia and husband Luis, Donald Baldridge, Jr. and wife Julie, Tracy Wilburn, Clifford “P-Nut” Y’Barbo, Jr. and wife Reagan Grandchildren: Mario Garcia and wife Julie, Eduardo Garcia and wife Kathryn, Carlos Garcia, Brittney Dominguez and husband Ricky, Chelsey Rigg and husband Bobby, Austen Baldridge and wife Kaitlin, Alison and Autumn Baldridge, Joshua Weyer and fiancé Laura, Jared Weyer and wife Samantha, Kadee and Kash Y’Barbo Great Grandchildren: River and Blake Dominguez, Holden and Presley Lusk, Collin and August Baldridge, Savannah and Evelyn Rigg, Bexar and Belle Garcia, Asher Garcia Sisters: Ethel Smith and Cathy Cooper; Sisters-in-law: Carolyn Anders, Dorothy Holloway and Alice Y’Barbo; Cousins: Jackie Ruffino, Florence Myers, Delia Bennett, Bobby Vidal, and all her numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, work and church families. Mona enjoyed reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, embroidering, and sending birthday and holiday cards to family and friends. Another special pastime was making footstools for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each has received one of these treasured gifts from their Memaw. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23, which said it all for her. She was always so proud of all her family. She felt God had truly blessed her, by giving her the most loving and wonderful family anyone could ever have. She loved being able to spend time with any or all of them. She enjoyed all the fun, the many laughs, the precious and amazing love that they always shared with each other. She was so very glad that she belonged to the Lord, and so thankful she had been forgiven through Jesus. She was looking forward to seeing HIM in heaven and her family and friends that are already there. She will be waiting for the rest of us to meet her there someday.
