Sue Calandra

Iris Sue Calandra, at 77 years young, completed her earthly journey on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at 5:10 pm. Everyone knew her as “Sue”, “Miss Sue”, or “Mimi” – No one ever called her “Iris” and got away with it!! Sue is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dominic. They met, married, and started their family in Buffalo, New York. She is also survived by their 3 children: son, Thomas and his wife Charlyn, daughter Kelli, daughter Melissa Jo, and her husband Andrew; Her sister Virginia; and last but surely not least, her 5 beloved grandchildren, Jack, Jason, Dominic, Dylan and Charlotte. She is also survived by many, many friends and family members who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her Parents: Henry and Eva Robertson, of Moro, Arkansas and her siblings Horace, Howard, Frances, Franklin, Warren Lee, Mary Evelyn, Boyd, Lloyd and Raymond. Sue was a fiery red head with sass to spare and a flair for fashion! She was extremely creative, fun-loving and a fierce competitor - and rumor has it that her children just may have inherited these same traits. She was ferociously protective of her family and friends and was never afraid to speak her mind, good or bad. Sue may have been known to yell at umpires, telephone solicitors, or anyone that brought her cold fries or a quesadilla that wasn’t crispy enough! A lifelong collector of elephant figurines, she would only accept them if the trunk was up and firmly believed that she should never buy one for herself…. Superstitious? Or just a ploy to get presents? Lastly, Sue was a hard-working, highly awarded customer service leader for Sears. While she excelled in her career in both Lafayette, Louisiana and Jacksonville, Florida, her awards and accomplishments paled in comparison to just being “Mimi” to her grandchildren…. thus, the reason for calling Houston her final home.
