Alfredo Bernal

Alfredo Bernal, 94 years old of Spring, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 peacefully, with his son, Al Bernal, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly by his side. His son played his favorite song and sang it to him in his final moments. Alfredo was just a few months away from his 95th birthday. Alfredo was born on June 25, 1929 in Bogota, Colombia to Gregorio Bernal and Rafaela Munoz. On July 1, 1948, he married the love of his life Olga Bernal in Bogota, Colombia. In 1966, Alfredo moved his family from Colombia to the United States and settled down in Houston, Texas. It was in Houston, that Alfredo began his lifelong career as a successful insurance agent with Farmers Insurance and he loved his work, and worked until he was 82. Alfredo was an avid soccer and tennis player and loved to win. Most of all Alfredo loved to sing, dance, and just have a good time with family and friends. He never missed a party or a wedding. Alfredo is survived by his daughter Gloria (Mike) Desai of West Chester, Pennsylvania, his son, his best friend and caregiver for the last 13 years, Alfredo, Jr. (Kimberly) Bernal of Spring, Texas, and son, James Bernal of Houston, Texas. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Kristina Dorris, Captain Ravi Desai, Rajesh Desai, Barney Brasher, Jr. and Gabriela Bernal who was very special to her grandfather and would visit him several times a month and survived by several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition, Alfredo is also survived by his son-in-law; Barney Brasher, Sr., former daughter-in-law, Natalia Bernal who was very special and would visit Alfredo weekly and she would take him out to lunch several times a month. He is also survived by his brother Jorge Bernal of Bogota, Colombia, a sister, Blanca Palacios of Cali, Colombia and a special nephew, Diego Palacios of Dallas, Texas who grew up in the Bernal household. A very special caregiver and his singing partner, Gloria Velasco of Houston, Texas and caregiver and family member, Donice Johnson. Alfredo was preceded in death by his wife, Olga Bernal of 74 years and his loving daughter, Stella Brasher, his parents and his brother, Guillermo. Alfredo has been cremated and the Memorial Service is May 4th at Addison Funeral Home immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at his son’s home, where they will eat, drink, sing and dance to Alfredo’s favorite food and songs.
