Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. In memory of América Yolanda Peña de Pérez Our beloved mother, América Yolanda Peña de Pérez, died peacefully at the age of 90 surrounded by her family, after receiving the last rites, on March 4, 2023 in Houston, Texas. América was born in Los Aldamas, Nuevo León, México, was blessed with being part of a big loving family and was raised in Monterrey, Nuevo León. She was a very beautiful girl, and because of her good looks she was nicknamed “The Little Irish Girl.” She went to school at Escuela Normal Miguel F. Martínez where she studied education. Later on, she was offered a position as an Elementary teacher. América was a deeply religious person since she was a little girl. Her love of God and her faith were the foundation of her strong values and meant everything to her. She met the love of her life, “the only man she could ever love”, Jesus Roberto Pérez, at the age of 18 when she attended a baptism celebration, and their beautiful love story began. They got married in 1956 and moved to the USA. She had to say goodbye to her family and friends in Mexico to start her new life as a wife. They had five children together and were happily married for sixty years. América was a woman of great and countless qualities, the most incredible, selfless and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend of many. She was our role model, was always there for all of us, and we always felt the immense love she had for her whole family. Being surrounded by her loved ones and receiving and entertaining visitors at her home was one of her greatest joys. Our dear mother, who was always happy and full of energy, loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing at every opportunity she had. She was the life of the party! She was also a great cook. When she was young, she took cooking lessons and learned to prepare delicious dishes that she was happy to share with her family and guests. América’s strength and courage was an inspiration for all who knew her. She never complained or gave up in the face of obstacles, losses or problems. She faced every difficult situation with a smile, profound wisdom and contagious optimism. She is survived by four children: Guadalupe Rosillo (Eduardo), Luis Lauro Pérez (Alma), Jesús Angel Pérez, Rosalinda A. Pérez (José Luis), and her daughter-in-law Francisca Pérez. She is also survived by her sisters: Esperanza Peña de Alvarado, Cristina Garza and Aurora Peña de Treviño; as well as numerous cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces. Her grandchildren: Claudia Cheramie (Sean), Luis Pérez (Lea), José Pérez (Gaby), Karena Branham (William), Diana Rodriguez (Ignacio), Roberto Pérez (Jassana), Rocío Espinoza (José), Armando Pérez Jr., Eduardo A. Rosillo (Emily) and her great grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, Nathaniel, Naomi, Annelie Rose, Remus Alejandro, Angélica Grace, Valerie Marie, José Luis III, Aiden, Brielle. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymundo Peña Elizondo and Guadalupe Alanís de Peña; her husband Jesús Roberto Pérez, her son Armando Pérez, and her brothers: Juan, Rosendo, Raymundo, Leonel, Roberto and José Luis. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the whole team of medical professionals for the kindness, loving care, compassion and friendship so freely given to our mother, especially to her doctors: Dr. Raja Abushaar, Dr. Luis Castillo, Dr. James T. Wharton and Dr. Ralph Rapini; her nurses: Elizabeth Nolton and José Carlos; and her caregivers: Gabriela Nieto, who faithfully and lovingly cared for our mother for thirteen years, Esperanza Zepeda, Carmen Arechiga, Martha Juarez and Ana Duque. Our mother América will be desperately missed by all of those that she has left behind. Our hearts are broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind, and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed. We will honor our mother’s legacy by living joyfully like she taught us, and by thanking God for blessing us with such an amazing, loving and generous woman in our lives.
