Christopher Edward Spaulding

Christopher Edward Spaulding passed away on March 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends and at peace with his earthly journey and the promise of eternal life. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana on December 13, 1957 to Dayton and Maria Concepcion Spaulding, Chris lived briefly in New Jersey, and moved with his parents and two younger sisters to Plymouth, New Hampshire in 1965. Throughout his youth, Chris excelled in academics and athletics. Inspired by his father's passion and skill for the game of basketball, Chris became a standout basketball player in high school, earning a starting position on the varsity team beginning as a freshman and later was recognized for scoring more than 1,000 points over the course of his four years on the team. Chris attended every practice and game possible during his father's tenure as coach of the men's basketball team at Plymouth State University, often running home after school, grabbing a snack and a basketball, and bolting through the streets of Plymouth to get to the field house in time to watch team practice, always eager to observe and learn. His focus on studies never faltered, however, as he would return home to do his homework and study. He also enjoyed fishing the rivers and lakes in New Hampshire with his father and other friends. Later in his youth, he began to play golf, a passion that remained throughout his adult life, so much so that one time he left on a business trip forgetting his suitcase at home but remembering his golf clubs. Graduating salutatorian of his high school class, Chris went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, where his father attended, earning an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. He later obtained an MBA from the University of Denver. His 40-year distinguished career in the oil and gas industry encompassed engineering and later management positions, first in several cities in the United States, specifically Salt Lake City, Denver, and Houston, and then in countries across five other continents: England, the Netherlands, Argentina and Colombia, Angola, and Russia. His travels throughout the world for business and leisure gave him a wide perspective and understanding of and compassion for other cultures and systems. He retired in 2021 to Spring, Texas, where he enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family, playing golf, as well as spending several months of the year at his vacation home in Argentina, a place that brought him true joy. He especially enjoyed watching his sons excel in golf, attending golf tournaments throughout the United States and several other countries. In June 2024, Chris was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Supported constantly by his wife Andrea following this diagnosis, Chris was determined to live life to the fullest and was equally dedicated to helping others suffering with the debilitating disease and advocating for increased funding for ALS research as there is no known cure for the disease at this time. He was an active volunteer with the I Am ALS organization, working to increase legislative focus on the need for funding for research and clinical trials. He stood beside others suffering with ALS, assisting in their appeals to insurance companies regarding medication denials to help reduce the progression of the disease. And despite not being a veteran himself, he was involved in championing the Justice for ALS Veterans Act of 2025, a bipartisan bill aiming to ensure that surviving spouses of veterans who die from ALS receive full dependency and indemnity compensation. This change to the act removed the requirement that a veteran must have been totally disabled for eight years prior to death, greatly impacting the majority of those living with ALS as the average life expectancy with ALS is two to five years from diagnosis. In August 2025, Chris was recognized by the ALS Association with the ALS Hero Award for his significant contributions to the organization and others living with the disease. Chris will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Andrea Fabricius and their children Matthew and Andrew Spaulding, and Christopher's son, Michael and his wife, Kayley, and their children, Davis and Nora; Deborah Spaulding Rainey and her husband, John S. Rainey, Jr.; and Michelle Caraccio and her children Joseph Caraccio, Natalie Caraccio Fazio and her husband Michael Fazio, and Jack Caraccio and his fiancee, Michon Whitney, as well as mother-in-law,Maria Christina Gabioud, sister-in-law Maria Valeria Fabricius and husband Jorge Tobares and their son Juan Bautista Tobares; brother-in-law Cipriano Fabricius and his children Albertina Fabricius, Cipriano Fabricius, Augustin Fabricius, and Fransisco Fabricius. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will also be remembered by friends made throughout his lifetime. Despite his early demise from ALS, Christopher accomplished much in his life, touched the lives of many, and served as a tireless advocate for ALS advancements to help future patients.
