Danae Darice Esteviz

Danae Darice Esteviz, 71, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on July 15, 2026. But, in true Danae fashion, she put up one hell of a fight. Born May 15, 1955, Danae was the fifth of eight children to Raul and Irma. To her oldest sister, Norma, she was simply "Danae girl." She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Esteviz, and is now reunited with him, with her beloved grandparents, and with Norma, in heaven. Danae was dynamic, and depending on when you knew her, you may have known a different side of her: Danae the music lover, the math genius, the crafter, the self-taught seamstress who learned by book and sewed like she'd done it all her life (although she confessed later in life she didn't even like to do it, she just loved to make things for others). She loved movies and oldies music. She would happily watch and listen to her favorites on repeat. She loved to play solitaire and five-card stud and spin her Wheel of Fortune slot machine. Stay away though if you were a jinx! But more than anything, Danae loved her family. She battled countless illnesses over the years and carried struggles many never saw, and still she gave everything she had to the people she loved. If Danae only had a dollar, you could have it. A constant gift-giver. Endlessly generous. She wanted the best for everyone. Somewhere along the way, Danae lost her joy, so her other feelings carried on for her as best they could. But every so often, there were glimmers of joy. Playing board games with her grandchildren. Being gossipy over breakfast. A trip to Branson with her sisters. Phone calls with her brothers. Visits from her cousins. In those moments, she lit up, and it was such a beautiful sight to see. If you were part of her life, it's because somewhere along the way, you were one of the people who revealed her joy. So thank you. Danae leaves behind her four children, Isabel, Jacob, Richard, and Raymond, and seven grandchildren who were her delight: Bobby, Benny, Brandon, Mystique, Kal-El, Gambit, and Jaxon. She leaves her siblings Raul, Mario, Ida, Irma, Jana, and Rosie, and loving godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she loved like family. She fought hard, she loved harder, and she will be deeply missed. Forever in our hearts and always on our mind.
