In Loving Memory of Donald Robert Vanderhoof October 4, 1933 to November 27, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Vanderhoof announces his passing after a long battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). Don was born October 4, 1933 in Dover, New Jersey. He joined the U.S Navy in 1953 where he was trained to work on jet airplanes. The Navy sent him to Kingsville, Texas where he met the love of his life Barbara Niehaus and they were married in 1955. From Kingsville he was stationed in San Diego, California and then deployed to Japan on the USS Essex. He served in the Navy until 1957. He then went to work for Central Power & Light Company in Alice, Texas as an Engineering Draftsman. CP&L transferred Don and his family to Corpus Christi where he continued to work for them until his retirement in 1994. In his retirement years he enjoyed his love of carpentry, travel and spending time with his family. Loved ones that will miss Don until they meet again are his wife of 63 years, Barbara: his daughters, Susan Baker and children, Melissa Kanak (Kirk), Andrew Baker (Holly), and Sarah Smith (Nolan): Tammy Sells and children, Tray Sells (Shelby), Joshua Sells (Jana) and Adam Sells (Breanna): Lori Pierce(Lowell) and children, Michelle Hart, Mason Pierce and Leslie Pierce: Rebecca Thomson (Larry) and children, Amanda Thomson, Ashleigh Pitts (Alan), Larry Thomson and Lindsey LaFluer (Andrew). He also has 14 great grandchildren that loved him dearly. Loved ones that met him in Heaven are his parents, Harold and Esther Vanderhoof; siblings, Dorothy Fisher, Harold Vanderhoof and Wesley Vanderhoof: son-in-law Randy Baker and grandson Matthew Baker. Services will be held Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Addison Funeral Home Chapel in Spring, TX. A short visitation will begin at 10:00am. The memorial service will begin at 11:00am and a private military burial will be at 12:45 at the Houston Veterans National Cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Don to St Jude Children’s Hospital or Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville, TX. The Addison family and staff extend their condolences to the Vanderhoof family.
