Evelyn Rachel Johnson

Evelyn Rachel Johnson passed away on October 31, 2023. Evelyn was born June 7, 1926, to Dealy Fletcher Bishop and Minnie Samantha Cook Bishop in Hunt County, Texas. Graveside services will be held on November 9, 2023, at 12:00 pm in Farmersville, Texas at the Farmersville, IOOF Cemetery. She is to be buried next to her husband of 49 years. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, W. D. Johnson, an infant baby boy, Wendel Dwayne; her parents, Dealy Fletcher and Minnie Samantha Bishop, all her siblings, Effie Ragsdale, Ethel Key, Clyde Bishop, Clifford Bishop, Orene Blackshear, Opal Blackshear, Woodrow Bishop, Carrel Bishop, Elsie Moore, and Wynona Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, Sherry Murchison and husband, Richard; Karen Brake and husband, David; Lynda Burton and husband, Bruce. Evelyn is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Heather Nelson and husband, Brian; Blake Murchison and wife, Kelly; Heidi Jircik and husband, Chuck, Hannah Conley and husband, Derek; Jennifer Bridges; Jacey Updegrove and husband, Alex; Amber Burton; and Amanda Hayden and husband, Stone. Evelyn is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Faith Watkins and husband, Graham; Logan Nelson; Ian Nelson, Ezra Nelson; Jordyn Murchison, Kaiden Murchison, Vincent Murchison; June Jircik; Violet Conley and Remi Conley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn and her family were honored to be able to have Kay Lynn Beach Derrich as part of their family as she was growing up. Evelyn started babysitting Kay Lynn when she was 18 months old, and continued to keep her after school until she grew up. Kay Lynn has always been a special part of our family and still is. Evelyn loved visiting her family and her husband’s family as often as possible, and she loved going to the Bishop family reunions. She loved going camping with friends, hosting garage sales and being involved with her church in West Columbia. Evelyn was an excellent cook who made the most wonderful chicken and dumplings and fried chicken, in addition to being an excellent baker. She loved to create delicious caramel meringue, coconut cream and other pies, and plenty of cookies to share. She loved having people over and hosting parties to serve her delicious food. Evelyn loved playing 42 with her family and having couples over on Sunday nights after church. She also loved to garden and could often be found spending time tending to her flowers, frequently with a grandchild or two in tow to spend some quality time together. Evelyn loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and will be missed dearly by all.
