Gary Kyle McCarley

Gary Kyle McCarley, 82, born July 13, 1937, in Las Vegas, Nevada, entered into rest on September 27, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Kyle McCarley and Douella “Irene” Bauer Hardy; sister, Beverly McCarley Vincent, and brother-in-law, Ronald Vincent; and both maternal and paternal grandparents. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of twenty-four (24) years, Johnnie Jackson McCarley; daughter, Shelly McCarley Shultz and husband, Gregory; daughter, Shannon McCarley Van Orden; step-daughter, Deborah Wardrup Maddux and husband, James; step-son, John Wardrup; step-daughter, Deanna Wardrup Green and husband, Raul; step-son, James Wardrup and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, David Shultz and wife, Jessica; Ashley Shultz Abke and husband, Randy; Jacob Maddux; Kaitlyn Walston; Brooklynn Van Orden; Trenton Van Orden; Forest Green; Hunter Green; Brayden Wardrup; Zander Wardrup; and Avery Wardrup; great-grandchildren, Andrew Abke; Lillian Shultz; Kyle Abke; Hannah Shultz; and Elizabeth Abke. Gary worked part-time at the Houston Post while in high school. After graduating from Aldine High School in 1955, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. Following his service to our country, he received an apprenticeship at the Houston Post and later became a Printer and member of the Union. He worked at the Houston Post for nearly forty (40) years until it was sold to the Hearst Corporation (Houston Chronicle) in 1995. He worked an additional nine (9) years at the Houston Chronicle until his retirement at the age of sixty-seven (67). As a young man, Gary had a passion for sports, fishing, hunting, and planting a garden. He loved to go to Galveston and play softball and volleyball with his Houston Post co-workers and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows, “sipping” on his beer, smoking his pipe, and spoiling his beloved Maltese, Angel girl. Services will be held at Addison Funeral Home, 18630 Kuykendahl Road, Spring, Texas 77379, Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 11:00 o’clock a.m. A reception will be held immediately following the service at Bammel Church of Christ, Ministry Building, 2700 FM 1960 Road, Houston, Texas 77068. Gary’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
