Margaret Lorraine Ricker

Margaret Lorraine Ricker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at her home in Spring, Texas, on May 19, 2010 at the age of 53. Lorraine valiantly battled uterine cancer for six months. She was born on February 16, 1957 in Huntington Beach, California to Alfred Boyd and Lucy Francis Crooks. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed many activities, including swim team, oil painting, jogging, and spending time with her family. As a young adult, she enjoyed her career as a travel agent. She loved to travel the world and visit new places. She was married to Andy Ricker in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on October 30, 1980 for time and all eternity. The couple was blessed with four children, all of whom are living: Scott, Alan, Christopher, and Andrea. She was also blessed with three wonderful daughter-in-laws, whom she loved dearly - Theresa Smith, Elizabeth Weger, and Rebecca Lamb. She has one loving grandchild, Samuel, age 3. Lorraine was a dedicated mother and grandmother, who devoted her life to the well being of her children and grandson. She was an active volunteer in her church for the Cub Scouts and the Young Women program, where she served for many years. She loved being a Cub Scout Den Leader, when her sons were young; and she also enjoyed many years serving as the camp cook and the paddleboat master for her church’s summer Girls Camps, with her daughter. She was also active in the PTA, and community volunteer work. Lorraine served everyone she met with a smile on her face. She had a zest for life, coupled with a love for people that showed through her friendliness and hospitality, which will never be forgotten. She loved to put on neighborhood bar-b-ques and many church social events and really enjoyed her calling as the Ward Activities Chairman. Lorraine will be greatly missed by her family and her many wonderful, dear friends. A visitation will be held Friday, May 28th at the Kleinwood LDS Chapel from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm. A memorial service will be held in her honor the following day, Saturday, May 29th at 10:00 am at the previously mentioned location. Shortly thereafter, we will gather together at the Tranquility Oaks Cemetery for the grave dedication and burial. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks and gratitude for the multitude of kind acts of love and service received, to the many dear friends and neighbors who were at her bedside for those many weeks. We also wish to thank Dr. Christine Lee and Dr. Elizabeth Sands, and their wonderful caring staffs, for their loving efforts and support during this time. Also, we wish to thank Dr. Sandra Gomez, and the Evercare Hospice support staff, and last, but not least, Ringo, the medical equipment delivery driver for his great service, caring attitude, and his wonderful smile. And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow. --Alma 40:12
