Patricia Earlena Morgan

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:6-7 Patricia Earlena Morgan, 63, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Noon with her family by her side in Houston, Texas. She was born November 27, 1947, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, to Rodwell and Winifred Campbell. Her father was a shoemaker in Kingston, while her mother worked as a seamstress in Jamaica and later as a train conductor in England before returning to the island for retirement. As a child, Patricia was lovingly known as Blossom. Growing up in Kingston, she won an academic scholarship to attend Excelsior, where she was bestowed the title of Prefect or Head Girl. As a young woman, Patricia attended the College of Art, Science and Technology and was also a Sunday school teacher at her church. During this time she met and fell in love with Leonard Morgan who was a Swiss-trained goldsmith at Swiss Stores. They soon became engaged. During this engagement she completed further studies in pharmacy in the United States at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After graduation, she returned to Jamaica to get married. By this time she was a pharmacist and worked as a science teacher until she and Leonard returned to the United States to have their children and build their life together in the suburbs of Chicago. Patricia went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Administration from the College of Saint Francis and became supervisor of Pharmacy at Ingalls Memorial Hospital for the next 20 years. After her stroke, she remained a wonderful friend and devoted wife and mother for the next 15 years. Her interests included: family, reading, shopping, traveling, American football, science and math, baking, trivia shows, not revealing her age, keeping up with friends, making up crazy words (probably from funny Jamaican patois), and good jokes. Out of all these wonderful qualities, we will remember mom best for her ebullient laughter, quick wit and sense of humor. While our pain is deep and our sadness stings, we know she has transitioned to a better place; for we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and Pat loved the Lord. We enjoyed many years with our beloved Pat and we know she touched many lives. Patricia is survived by her husband, Leonard Morgan; sons, Christopher and Courtney; daughter, Camille; daughter-in-law, April, wife of Christopher and their children: grandsons Christopher and Colin; granddaughters Chase and Camryn.
