Renee Jahnke

Sharon Reneé Jahnke, 70, of Houston, Texas, went home to be with our Father in Heaven Saturday, February 19th, 2022. There she joined many family members who went before her, including her sister, Joette, her parents, John and JoNell Garrison, and her beloved eternal companion and husband of 37 years, Steve. Reneé Jahnke was born November 13, 1951, in Houston, Texas. A proud native Houstonian, she graduated from Spring Woods High School in 1969. Reneé is survived by her four children and their families. Son, Eric Jahnke, and his wife Amber, along with their children; Reagan, Jesse Holder, Madison Holder and Nolan. Daughter, Holley Leckie, and her husband Adam, along with their children; Abby, Megan, Sophie and Emma. Daughter, Laura Black, and her husband Jaron, along with their children; Grace, Maddox and Layla. Son, Gregory Jahnke, and his wife Sharla, along with their children; Logan, Lacey, and Caden. Additionally, she is survived by her older sister, Penny Vetuski, of Wimberly Texas, and a huge number of other loving relatives. After meeting him when she was 14, and later waiting for him to complete his two-year mission call to the Alaska/Canadian Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Reneé married Steven S. Jahnke on June 1, 1970, in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where they were sealed together for time and all eternity. Reneé Jahnke spent her life in the service of others. She spent 14 years driving a school bus for Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Known as “Mrs. Reneé” she earned the love and trust of countless children. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. Reneé constantly served in a number of different callings, like Relief Society President, Chorister and Primary Teacher. Most recently, Renee was called as a Service Missionary in the church’s Addiction Recovery Program, where she served with honor. A fierce champion for the underdog, Reneé was often found helping others. She loved the Houston Fire Department, and earned the affectionate nickname “Boss Lady” by the men and women who served with her husband Steve, a Houston firefighter for 36 years. Reneé proudly served on the Houston Fire Fighters’ Relief and Retirement board. During that time, she fought tirelessly for the pensions “her” firefighters had rightfully earned, taking the fight all the way to Austin, where she spoke before the Texas Senate and various committees. Reneé will be missed, but surely would remind us all that she is now in the place she’s faithfully and patiently waited to be for nearly 15 years, in the arms of her best friend, Steve.
