Richard Allen Hammitt II

Richard “Rick” Allen Hammitt January 3, 1973 – March 4, 2026 Richard Allen Hammitt, 53, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 3, 1973, to Richard and Joan Hammitt. Rick always had a deep love of learning, which led him to graduate high school a year early and attend Texas A&M University, where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1995. He went on to complete a Master’s (2004) and Ph.D. (2008) in Chemistry from University of Houston, laying the groundwork for a career in research and science. Rick spent most of his professional life in medical research, knowing he was helping others and making an impact. He began his professional career while at A&M where he worked at Burroughs-Wellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline) in pharmaceutical research. He then shifted to cancer research at M.D. Anderson, and later at Sigma-Aldrich working on DNA research in relation to cancer medications. Owning his own business was a lifelong dream of his, even stepping out in faith in August 2018 to quit his job and pursue that passion. He combined his expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to found Spring Formulations, focusing on formulation chemistry and helping turn scientific discoveries into practical solutions. Clients were drawn to him for his thoughtful and steady presence where his integrity earned him deep respect. Beyond the lab, Rick’s greatest joy was his family. He met Ann when they were both students at Texas A&M University, and together they built a life rich in love and laughter over 28.5 years of marriage. After a long and grief-stricken journey to parenthood, Rick and Ann welcomed their daughter Emily (20), now studying Bioenvironmental Science at Texas A&M, and their son Robert “Robby” (17), a senior at Klein Collins High School. Rick was active at Faithbridge, where he undoubtedly left a lasting mark on his church community. His faith was central to his daily life, and he openly shared his journey toward a deeper relationship with God. Even near the end of his life, he asked Ann to encourage others to consider learning more about Christianity by reading Lee Strobel’s book, The Case for Christ, in his honor. In April 2023, Rick was diagnosed with ALS (often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease). For nearly two years, he faced the disease with faith, courage, and grace. He often said that if even one person moved closer to Christ as a result of watching him battle this disease, then it was all worth it. “Rick was a man of few words, but he chose those words carefully.” Rick is survived by his beloved wife Ann; children Emily and Robert; parents Richard and Joan and brother Stephen; in-laws John and Janis Stayton; brother-in-law JT; sister-in-law Beth; aunts, uncles, and cousins, and countless friends who have become family. Jay and Kim Barrington hold a special place in Rick’s heart and helped him feel at peace knowing that they, along with countless others, would take care of Ann and his children while he was gone. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Concho Hearts Hospice, who were integral in helping the family navigate the ALS journey. Rick especially wanted to recognize trusted friend Ms. Barbara, who took special care of him and loved him like family. Chaplain Khris also went above and beyond to make sure Rick was taken care of, prayed over, and deeply loved up until his last breath here on Earth.
