Roy Lee Huckabay

Roy Lee Huckabay was born on October 19th of 1940. After spending his childhood years being raised in Austin, TX, the family settled in the Houston area. His first employment was at the age of 15 with a local grocery store, Weingarten’s. This is where he would meet a lovely young woman by the name of Pat, who he would later marry on October 3rd, 1959. With the experience that Roy gained from Weingarten, he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by starting his first business, a fruit stand on Cullen Street. Shortly thereafter, he expanded to multiple convenient stores. After much success, he purchased a mobile home park behind the store. This was truly the beginning of his journey as a successful businessman. Roy was blessed with two sons, Steve & Greg. Both boys became part of the family business at an early age, where he set the example for them to become the men that they are today. Along with raising a family and running his businesses, he served in the National Guard Reserves from 1966 – 1970. From 1970-1989, he owned and operated 6 “Lucky 7 supermarkets”, as well as several mobile home parks. During this time, he met some great people and made lifelong friends. Downtime for Roy was spent fishing & hunting with his sons, playing golf, & spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was never known to turn down a trip to the casino and he always looked forward to his weekly domino games and chewing the fat with his buddies. Into his retirement years he continued to dabble in real estate even up until his final days. He was a wealth of knowledge! This kind man was very generous with a BIG heart. He gave to multiple charities and was always there to lend a hand for anyone in need. Roy was preceded in death by his parents RV & Lexa Huckabay, brothers-in-law, Richard Teel & JC Merryman, sisters-in-law, Sue LaField & Kay Smith. He is survived by his lovely wife of 62 years, Pat, sons Greg, Steve & daughter-in-law Jocelyne. Four grandchildren, Taylor, Megan, Garret and Cole Huckabay. Sister, Betty Merryman and sister-in-law, Sandra Teel, along with many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. You may not be here in our presence, but you will always be in our hearts!!
