Amanda Espino

December 26, 1918 - April 13, 2021

The youngest of Pomposo and Marta Ramirez, Amanda was born Nov. 26, 1918 in Sulphur, LA. where the family had moved to find work. She precedes her siblings Ernestina, Jesus, Abelardo, Alicia, Heriberta, and Amparo. In 1919 her family moved to Port Arthur, TX in hopes of finding work in what was called "The Texas Oil Boom". In the early 20's, Jesse and Abie, travel and move to Detroit MI. to find work. Once settled, they sent for Pomposo, Marta and the girls. The year is 1924 and all are living together in one house; Amanda attends public school (1st-7th), Amparo attended Cass Technical High School, Jesse marries Lottie Brudecka and Abie marries Voila Nowak. Soon after the start of the great depression, in 1930 Pomposo decides he would be better off in Morelos; he moves Marta and children back to Mexico to start over. During the next decade Pomposo builds a home at Bravo #5 and Heriberta and Amparo marry. In 1936 Amanda turns 18 and moves to San Antonio, TX to find work. Amanda marries Moises Espino del Castillo Nov. 19, 1947. The following year, Norma is born, three years later has Moises Jr., and eight years later Marla. Managing household affairs and working at HEB (a Texas grocery chain) Amanda still manages to look beautiful and attend many social events with her husband. In the 70's, Amanda became a grand-mother for the first time when Art was born. Norma marries David & Pomposo passes away. Patricia was born; Junior marries Gloria Castillo (1974) and has Jennifer the follwoing year. Amanda retires from HEB in 1980 after 26 years of service. HEB proclaimed "Amanda's Day" as she served cake to all her customers. In 1986 when Marla lost her first husband Roberto in a tragic accident, Amanda's heart was broken. When Marla married Mario Keller in 1996, Amanda rejoiced. Amanda lost her beloved El Dugue in 2002, but great-grandchildren helped fill the void; Jacob was born, followed by Ashley, Emily, Chloe, Genesis, Christian & Lindsey. She sold her house at 136 Thomas Jefferson Dr. in San Antonio and moved to Spring, TX with Norma and David in 2014. In lieu of flowers please send donations too, La Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. 201 Meredith Dr. San Antonio, TX 78228. (210)737-6113 Rev. Alphonso Flores.
