Bill Chen
April 25, 1942 - February 1, 2022
Bill CM Chen was born on April 25, 1942 in Hukou, Taiwan to Chen Noon-shieu and Chen Huang King-may. Bill was married to Judy for 50 years before his passing on February 1st, 2022 at home in Cypress, Texas. Bill was an adventurer. You might not think it by looking at him, but he traveled halfway across the world to navigate a new culture. A story he enjoyed telling was his first time in America eating a hamburger, he had never seen one before and considered disassembling it and eating it piece by piece. His adventures continued, meeting a beautiful young woman at Wichita state where he was studying for his Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He was walking home in the rain when Judy stopped and asked him if he needed a ride home. Love at first sight! They continued their romance as Bill continued his education completing his Doctorate in engineering science at the University of Arkansas. They were married on December 26, 1971. As a young father, Bill loved telling tall tales. A favorite was the tale of the land of the giants that he visited and narrowly escaped after which he would point to the giant carved wooden spoon and fork on the wall as proof of his escapade. His desire to tell stories culminated in writing his memoirs, An Invisible Red Thread, which he self published in 2011. He loved nature, specifically Texas wildflowers, and made trips nearly every year with Judy to see blooming bluebonnets. Bill also enjoyed orchestral music and his favorite performer was violinist Andre Rieu. Bill was one of 7 siblings and is survived by Ke-Chi Chen, K.C. Chen, Victor Chen, Sue-Chuan Chen, Katy Chang, his wife Judy, 2 sons William (Tricia) and James (Christina), and 4 grandchildren.
