Donald "Don" Raney

Raney Obituary Donald Darrel Raney was born on March 14, 1937, in Oshkosh, NE to Darrel Shipton Raney and Edna "Bernice" Moss Raney. Don grew up and attended college in Noth Texas. He worked as an insurance adjuster and later regional manager for Farmers Insurance. He met his first wife Gerene in college and lived in the western states all of his life. They returned to Texas in 1995 and lived in Georgetown, and later The Woodlands and Spring, Texas. After his first wife passed away, he met Maxine Justice Weldon, and they married in 2018. He was a wonderful friend, devoted husband and father, grandfather and great grandfather. Don passed from this life to be with the Lord on March 13, 2025, at the age of 87. He was the middle child of three. His older sister, Patsy Sue Raney Stevenson, survives him. His younger brother, Gary Vance Raney, passed away at the age of 64 on February 5, 2005. Don's family moved several times. Growing up, he lived in Hastings, NE, Cisco, TX, Childress, TX, and Eastland, TX. He attended Abilene Christian College (now University) from 1954 to 1958. After graduation moved frequently as Don climbed the corporate ladder at Farmers Insurance Group. They lived in Lubbock, Texas in 1960; Garland, Texas in 1966; Dallas, Texas in 1967; Austin, Texas in 1968; Littleton, Colorado in 1974; Beaverton, Oregon in 1975; Pocatello, Idaho in 1981; Overland Park, Kansas in 1985; Thousand Oaks, California in 1990; Georgetown, Texas in 1995; and the Woodlands, Texas in 2012. Don married Nancy Gerene Wilson on May 31, 1958. They were married for fifty-eight years. They lived in The Woodlands, Texas since 2012. Gerene passed away on May 6, 2017, at the age of seventy-nine. They had two children, Bren Alyson Raney Tiel and Rance Wilson Raney. Bren brought Don three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His grandchildren through Bren and Rion Groves, are Christine "Christi" Nichole Groves, Austin Michael Groves, and Jennifer Alyson Groves Whelan. His great grandchildren are those of Jennifer and Josh Whelan, including Audrey, Norah, and Declan. Also, he has great grandchildren through Austin and Rachel Borne Groves, including Jack, Meredith, and Taylor. Rance and his wife Leah brought Don two grandchildren, Kylie and Bridget. Don met Billie Maxine Justice Weldon after his first wife passed away. They were married July 11, 2018. They lived and travelled happily together for six years until Don's passing.
