Frank W. Steen Jr.

Frank’s story began in Houston, TX where he was born to Frank Steen and Margaret Byrnes Gardner on February 28, 1940. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1958 and went on to play football for Texas Tech University. At the age of 20, he began working in the natural gas industry for Houston Natural Gas, later known as Entex and then Center Point Energy. Over his career, he made many close friends whom he coined creative nicknames for and often reminisced of the many funny stories they shared throughout his career. His storytelling was of epic proportions, with his tall stature and booming voice he would take command of a room in a heartbeat. Everyone remembers his ability to talk to anyone and how he loved being the center of attention. Frank’s larger than life personality carried itself onto the golf course. Frank was an avid golfer who centered his life around the game. Everyone teased Frank because he had so many pairs of golf shoes, even duplicates, but as Frank would say, “you gotta look good to play good”, and that he did. Anything Frank put his mind to he did at 200% and perfected it, golf was one of those things. Many hours were spent watching and playing the sport with family and friends. He always looked forward to watching Sunday golf games. Puerto Vallarta was a home away from home for his family for over 20 years. On Frank and Donna’s first trip together they toured the Guadalupe Cathedral, while touring, mass began so they ended up staying. It was in this same cathedral where mass was held in his honor after Frank passed away on May 29, 2016 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. His ashes were presented to the congregation and blessed by the priest. It was a memorable service attended by close family members in a place where many great memories were built over the years. Frank lived life his way, to the fullest. Frank is survived by his wife Donna Rotola Steen; children, Frank W. Steen, III and wife Margie, James F. Steen and wife Amy, Paige Cox and husband Tom, Summer Owens and husband Brad, and Tiffany Kelly and husband Chris; and 10 grandchildren, CJ Cox, Nicole Cox, Nathan Steen, Claire Steen, Brooke Owens, Jaxon Owen, Gavin Owens, Zane Kelly, Kinley Kelly, and Emerson Kelly. Frank loved his family and will be greatly missed.
