Michael Allen Mitchell

Michael Allen Mitchell (“Mike”), 70, of Spring, Texas, passed away on February 4th, 2016. Mike was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on December 16th, 1945, the son of C.A. and Rachel Mitchell. He graduated from Texarkana High School, and went on to attend University of Houston. Mike left University of Houston early to pursue his dream of playing golf on the PGA tour, and later completed his degree in Business Administration at East Texas State University in 1980. A very gifted golfer, Michael played in the U.S. Amateur as a teenager, won the Arkansas Amateur and Arkansas Open in the same year, played on 2 National Championship Teams at the University of Houston (1966, 1967), won the Inter-Service Tournament while in the Marine Corps, played on the PGA Tour for 7 years, and also won many, many, amateur events. He was recently inducted into the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame. After golf, Michael found his passion in helping others and donating his time, and was very involved in the local chapter of the Rotary Club and also his neighborhood Water Board. He eventually served as President for both local organizations. He was especially proud of his work as a Rotarian, where each year he helped his chapter raise funds to donate over a hundred bicycles to deserving kids. Mike was happily married to Loretta Mitchell on September 27th, 1974 and were married 41 wonderful years. He was incredibly proud of his wife and their life together, their family, and the time they spent traveling together. Mike worked as a Financial Planner for Symphony Financial. He was fascinated by financial planning, and loved helping his friends and clients find their financial dreams. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, C.A. (“Mitch”) and Rachel; and his sister Patti and her husband Pat Foster. Mike is survived by his wife, Loretta; son Rod Mitchell and wife Cheryl; son Daniel Swinford and fiancé Teresa Kennedy and her sons Dalton, Max, and Tristan; son Jerry Swinford and wife Jane; daughter Becky Evans and husband Alan; grandkids Justin Swinford, Spencer Mitchell, and Lauren Mitchell; nephews Mitch Foster and Jay Foster and their families; Loretta’s father Merrill Smith, and other family and friends. The family of Michael Allen Mitchell wishes to thank Amed Hospice the for their support in his final days.
