Sherry Seelal

Our mom was a god fearing, strong-willed, and loving woman. Mom was born June 29, 1947 to father, Rattan Singh, and mother, Dassie Ablack Rattansingh, in Trinidad and Tobago. She was one of five children, three sisters and one brother. In 1968 she was in her 20s and decided to come to New York; soon after arriving in New York, she met dad, Wayne Seelal. Only after a short time, she knew he was the one; so in 1970 they got married. Coming from a big family, she wanted a big family so soon after being married, they started their family. Mom had 5 sons, Wayne Jr., Shastri Nigel, Neil, Peter Edison, and Seth Adam. Dad drove to Houston, Texas to work at the Gulf Oil Corp in 1978. Mom followed dad and set up life in the greater Houston area. They had access to the growing medical center for Peter to be treated by Dr. DeBakey Sr; this was the start of their next chapter. Mom worked in the Klein School District for 12 years, until she retired. She was blessed with three great, smart, loving grandchildren, Wayne III, Justin Tyler, and Sara Elizabeth. Mom endured a lot in her life, from birthing five sons to losing three of them; 12 year old Peter Edison, 26 year old Seth Adam, and 1 year old Neil. This pain never waived her faith in the Lord; it magnified her love for him. She knew that the Lord would not give her more than she could handle. She was the mom that would pray for anyone who needed it, whether they knew it or not. While in the latter years of mom’s life, she may have appeared more quiet in nature, that was not the case. She was always the center of attention, giving her thoughts, telling it like it is; she was full of life. Mom’s favorite seasons were Thanksgiving and Christmas. A few things mom loved to do were: watching the Jeopardy game show, reading books, having tea talks with family and friends, baking, playing Monopoly and cards with her grandbabies, fishing with her sons and grandchildren, singing Christmas songs, but her top two favorite things to do more than just about anything were, going to church and praising the Lord. Mom is preceded in death by her father and mother, her older brother Mohan, her sisters Agnes and Neisa, her sons Neil, Peter, and Adam. However mom is survived by husband, Wayne Seelal; children, Wayne Jr. & Shirley (wife), and Nigel; grandchildren, Wayne III, Justin Tyler, & Sara Elizabeth; sister, Cintra; nieces, Wendy & family, Paula & family, Cindy & family Melina & family, and Melissa & family; nephews, Mark & family, Marlon & family, Wayne & family; extended family, Rachel, Jerley, Thejus-Justin, and Mahima-Leah.
