Thelma J Braddock

Thelma J. Braddock, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at age 89 on February 8, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by a large family, including four daughters (Marijon M. Johnson, Riselea McLeroy, Edith R. DeMayo and Thelma Michelle Brewer) and one son (Jack Brewer); nine grandchildren (Robert Moore, Rene Menzies, Jeffrey Moore, Michael A. Johnson, Richard A. Sells, Jessica R. Norris, Phillip E. Cook III, Kasey D. Holland and Theresa L. DeMayo); and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Joe C. McLeroy; husband, T. Cleburne McLeroy; Homer R. Brewer; Henry H. Braddock; her parents, Jewell C. and Jack Wortman; and sisters, Edith M. Stuart and Ruth Ralph. Thelma was born in Quanah, Texas on December 19, 1926, and grew up in Tyler. She dedicated more than 40 years to helping people of all ages with mental and physical challenges, through her work with various mental health organizations. So dedicated to this cause, that in March 2003, she founded Special Angels of The Woodlands — a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the lives of adults with physical and mental disabilities. Initially started in Thelma’s home, the organization continues to grow and provide meaningful daily activities with a strong emphasis on both enjoying and serving our local communities. Said Thelma, “We wanted a program where the clients could meet for a few hours a day, instead of just sitting at home with nothing to do. Not only is this helping the clients, it is giving the care givers respite for a few hours a day. With God's help and a lot of wonderful people, we have been able to grow this program over the years.” A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2:30 p.m., at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston 77079 — followed by a reception and celebration of life from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Shepherd’s House Church, 200 Pruitt Road in Spring 77380.
